Dental Clinic History

Milestone Dental Clinic - where we have been and where we are going.
Milestone Dental Clinic opened its doors in December of 1999. It was because of Milestone Inc’s frustration in securing dental care for the individuals with developmental disabilities residing in their residential program that funding was sought to build a dental clinic. The Illinois Department of Human Services awarded Milestone, Inc a grant to build a dental clinic that would provide dental services to individuals with developmental disabilities in 13 counties in NW Illinois. The current clinic administrator was hired to develop the program in June of 1999 and the clinic opened in December of 1999. In 2005 the service area was expanded to 18 counties in Northern Illinois. Milestone Dental Clinic currently serves over 4000 patients and completes over 500 patient visits per month.
Through the generosity of the Illinois Children’s Healthcare Foundation, Milestone Dental Clinic expanded in 2005 to double its original size. In 2009 the Illinois Children’s Healthcare Foundation again funded Milestone Dental Clinic for an equipment rejuvenation project. This project replaced aging equipment and added 1 more operatory. The Dekalb County Community Foundation also contributed to this most recent project.
The current dental staff includes 1 fulltime dentist, 2 dental hygienists, 3 dental assistants a benefits/accounts specialist and a clinic administrator. Individuals interested in becoming a patient should go to the How to Become a Patient section. Paperwork must be completed before any appointments are made.
